{"id":34152,"date":"2023-08-16T14:06:45","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T18:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adhdonline.com\/?p=34152"},"modified":"2024-06-05T21:14:46","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T01:14:46","slug":"new-adhd-online-ceo-prepares-to-broaden-our-aim-for-mental-health-assessments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adhdonline.com\/adhd-news\/new-adhd-online-ceo-prepares-to-broaden-our-aim-for-mental-health-assessments\/","title":{"rendered":"New ADHD Online CEO prepares \u2018to broaden our aim\u2019 for mental health assessments\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u201cWe are going to broaden our aim,\u201d Brophy said. \u201cNow we\u2019re refining the next-stage strategy as we take the business to the next level.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A veteran tech entrepreneur, Brophy became ADHD Online\u2019s CEO at the end of June, about two years after he joined the company as chief operating officer and \u201cjust as we really started to spike up and grow.\u201d Brophy succeeded co-founder Zachariah Booker as CEO at ADHD Online and Mentavi Health, an affiliated company that offers online assessments for mental health conditions other than ADHD.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Keep up with all things West Michigan business.&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cb.sailthru.com\/join\/7hq\/signup?hash=8bab137af60f924f97d12b0816853c87\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Sign up for our free newsletters today<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Booker and Randall Duthler co-founded ADHD Online in 2018. After stepping away from the company\u2019s day-to-day operations, Booker remains on ADHD Online\u2019s board of directors, and is still a &#8220;very engaged shareholder,&#8221; Brophy said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Booker and Duthler formed the company, ADHD Online\u2019s platform has assessed more than 137,000 patients for Attention-Deficit\/Hyperactivity Disorder, Brophy said. Doctorate-level psychologists review assessments and provide a diagnosis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About 30,000 patients who underwent an assessment from ADHD Online receive ongoing treatment for their condition, either through their own doctor or from a care provider that\u2019s part of a contracted provider network.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company recorded about $20 million in revenue in 2022, Brophy said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe business has grown rapidly to get to this point,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a large patient panel that we have.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Overcoming barriers<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As ADHD Online plots further growth, leaders face two significant barriers to overcome: regulatory changes and drug shortages.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Medications to treat ADHD that are in short supply \u201ccause a giant backup\u201d and complicate care for patients, Brophy said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the regulatory front, the expiration on May 11 of the U.S. public health emergency for COVID-19 means that physicians are no longer allowed to prescribe medications without seeing a patient first. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency has proposed a regulatory change to require an in-person visit before doctor can prescribe stimulants for an ADHD patient.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re doing a strategy refinement because of the industry headwinds,\u201d Brophy said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ADHD Online intends to evolve its assessment platform to integrate more behavioral health screenings, including social media behavior issues and risk factors, plus build out <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/mentavi.com\/\" title=\"Mentavi Health\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"449\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mentavi Health<\/a> that will \u201ctackle a broader range of conditions\u201d in mental health, Brophy said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than building assessments for <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/adhdonline.com\/anxiety\/\" title=\"anxiety\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">anxiety<\/a> and depression into ADHD screening as is now the practice, the company will adapt the platform and questionnaire to offer separate online assessments that begin with those conditions, he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company is \u201cgoing carefully with our road map\u201d and deciding the order in which it will tackle other conditions, Brophy said.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver time, we\u2019re going to build more front doors into the assessment,\u201d Brophy said. \u201cThe reality of mental health is we usually don\u2019t have one crisp issue. It\u2019s often a blend. We want to be that mental wellness assessor where you can come with a \u2018what\u2019s going on with me?\u2019 question and get a combination of diagnoses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe way to think of it is there\u2019s no wrong front door. The patient should not have to identify their condition.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"666\" src=\"https:\/\/adhdonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/c47e24a321468f600273fe1744ad92df.jpg.optimal.jpg\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-34154\" style=\"width:315px;height:210px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adhdonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/c47e24a321468f600273fe1744ad92df.jpg.optimal.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/adhdonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/c47e24a321468f600273fe1744ad92df.jpg.optimal-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/adhdonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/c47e24a321468f600273fe1744ad92df.jpg.optimal-768x511.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>All of the screenings the company intends to offer will operate off \u201cone assessment engine that, depending on where you\u2019re starting, is going to bring you through that condition,\u201d said Keith Boswell, Mentavi Health\u2019s vice president of marketing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut then it\u2019s also going to take you through the other conditions that may have co-morbidities,\u201d Boswell said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Securing capital<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As ADHD Online and Mentavi Health begin the drive toward the next stage, they closed this month on the first $2 million of a Series AA capital round led by <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/adhdonline.com\/state\/michigan\/\" title=\"Michigan\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"301\">Michigan<\/a> Capital Network;&nbsp; Grand Rapids-based Wakestream Ventures LLC, an early-stage investment fund founded by Rick DeVos; and Indianapolis-based Boomerang Ventures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michigan Capital Network first invested in ADHD Online in 2021 and anticipates high potential for digital and virtual health care providers coming out of the pandemic, which gave a major boost to the telehealth industry. Consumers today are much more apt to access a care provider virtually.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe culture changed virtually overnight,\u201d Brophy said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pandemic also accelerated rising incidence rates of mental illness at a time when care providers are in short supply.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High growth rates for telehealth providers have since eased, although accessing a care provider virtually now has a permanent role and a far larger role in the health care system than prior to the pandemic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou have more demand than you have providers, and that\u2019s going to continue,\u201d said Michigan Capital Network Managing Partner Dale Grogan, who serves on the ADHD Online board. \u201cThe opportunities are there. COVID really highlighted that here is a dislocation of just being able to get to a provider for an assessment. It\u2019s shone a light on there is a gap, and telehealth plugs that gap.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Beefing up<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In setting up the operations for the next stage, ADHD Online and Mentavi Health have been building a deeper management team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, they hired a chief financial officer, a chief medical officer in&nbsp;Dr. Barry Hermanand have assembled a team that has experience in digital health, Brophy said. A&nbsp;board-certified psychiatrist, Herman has 25 years of executive leadership experience, co-founded a digital health and wellness company and \u201cis one of the nation\u2019s leading thought leaders in the mental health space,\u201d Brophy said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ADHD Online wants to form partnerships with care providers around the U.S. to go with its contracted network of about 125 psychologists, physicians and nurse practitioners.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe see more advantage in partnering with the health system than trying to be an \u2018other,\u2019\u201d said Boswell, noting that \u201c80% of what we\u2019re doing is non-competitive.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ADHD Online, led by CEO Brophy, is expanding its services and refining its strategy to include more mental health conditions.
